Favelas are normally a no-go zone for tourists in Rio due to drug wars, gun fights and the lack of any kind of police force. Dona Marta, sometimes called Santa Marta, was the first favela to receive a Police Pacification Unit in Rio. The community was pacified in December 2008. (six-image stitched panorama)
